Warm and comforting with bits of chocolate and tender pears, this is a fantastic dessert on a cold winter night. Not only does it use up leftover French bread, but you can pop it into the oven and go on with your day while it bakes into a warm dessert for later. Try different kinds of fruit for the pears if you like, but they do make a really nice touch. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream for an extra special touch.

Melty chocolate, tender pears and soft bread make this a wonderful dessert on a cold night.

4 cups slightly stale French bread, cubed

1 cup sugar

2 cups whole milk

4 eggs

1 tsp cinnamon

pinch of nutmeg

3 pears, cored and cubed

4 oz cream cheese, cubed

1 cup dark chocolate chunks

1. Pre-heat the oven to 350 F and butter a 2 liter casserole dish.

2. In a large bowl, wisk the eggs, then add the milk, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk well. Pour the mixture over the bread cubes and stir.

3. Stir in the pears, chocolate, and cubed cream cheese. Pour the mixture into the buttered casserole dish, pressing down to make sure the liquid gets into all the bread.

4. Bake for about an hour, until puffy and golden. Let stand for about 20 minutes before serving.
